Why the Opposition to Draws?

"I insulted you"

Then you admit it. There is no excuse for it. It's not allowed here.
#111 Speaking of no excuse, what do the rules say about calling somebody mentally ill?
Okay, this thread has devolved into nothing but BobC insulting everyone and everyone insulting him back. Can we bring the discussion back to the actual topic, please? I prefer that discourse be civilized. If BobC insults you or someone else, you don't have to reply to him.
"I tell my students to never offer a draw unless there's simply nothing left in the position."
-- Jeremy Silman
Right. But sometimes even I make exceptions:

-last round
-playing against a friend
-winning the tournament outright

But this doesn't apply to internet chess, here I wanna play on till the cows go home.
BobC and tacticsaccount, please stop this non-sense. There is no need to insult each other... You have been warned.
Well, on the topic of OP, I've never really understood the people who will decline draws in drawn positions. I've had instances in OTB tournaments where I'll be playing somebody only ~200 points higher rated, and with even time on the clock in a Q+1 vs Q+1 ending, with the pawns on the e and f files, and me the only one with any pushing chances whatsoever, kept playing for some 30 moves and declined quite a few draw offers from me (the game, of course, ended in a draw.) Maybe I just don't have the "fighting spirit" that others do, I'll also resign when I'm down an exchange in an OTB game with no comp and even time as long as my opp is an expert or higher. Certainly, some (maybe even most in this thread) would try to play it out, but why waste the energy, in a lost game where you can resign or a clearly drawn game where you can offer a draw?
Dude, I have seen everything! More material, better time, better player, no counterplay - and out of a sudden it's a mess and completely unclear and eventually the wrong guy wins. Chess is simply not controllable because ist too complex for humans.

As I say in German: "Die Uhr ist auch eine Figur" which means the clock is a piece as well, when nerves come into play your playing strength becomes 3-digit Elo.

Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never. :)

"the clock is a piece"
In all my years playing chess I've never heard this, love it!
