There is no point to care about the ranking, just play

Why don't we all forget about our rank, just enjoy how to use brain to win the game! The main purpose in chess is to enjoy the game, win or lose does not matter anymore
I would disagree. I think we want to play, come win or lose, but we all want to win, and with those wins comes the higher ranks, which effectively helps us to play better opponents (since some higher opponents won't face lower opposition).
It is just fine for different people to play for different reasons. People do not need to conform to a single context for approaching chess.
I think People pay so much attention to rating because is natural to play looking for a sense of improvement.
Rating is a very effective measure of how much we're getting better with time.

"[...] because is natural to play looking for a sense of improvement [and] is a very effective measure of how much we're getting better with time."

Rating is over-rated IMO, especially if it is inflationary as we can see it on a monthly basis if we are willing to look back just 6-12month. It is simply meaningless. Its just there to serve the ego rather than to display improvement and real performance whilst it attracts the moths and all that unwanted stuff.

"[...] but we all want to win, [...] which effectively helps us to play better opponents (since some higher opponents won't face lower opposition)."

Well, do you or the folk out there remind themselves about this as soon as a "certain rating" is accomplished that is "high enough" to not play those lower ranks that hover below your own rating? In this case, folk here who claim in other forum posts that: "Higher ranks refusing to play me" will soon become the next generation of those who got accused for such behaviour.

I agree that "[it] is just fine for different people to play for different reasons." but definitely side IslandTman to "[...] forget about our rank, just enjoy how to use brain to win the game!"

Just my two pawns on it.
