A 2 hour ban?!

Can someone explain the reasoning behind requiring players to wait 15s before aborting the start of a game (no moves made)? How does this help the lichess community?
If you get punished for something, you're less likely to repeat it.
Because there was a major issue with people joining games and aborting them immediately. So now you get punished for aborting games immediately.
I'll rephrase. What is the harm done in a player abandoning a game before moves are made?
I'm glad there's a penalty; didn't know.

It's surprising how often people abort games---what do they not like they got black or my rating?
I just play in (or create) tournaments since it's easiest to get a pairing that way.
#6 It's interesting when people abort due to your rating, given that they either a) clicked on your seek or b) put out a seek with a rating range which included your rating. So people really should have no excuse to abort for this reason. Nevertheless, it happens to me fairly often. Somewhat annoying but no harm done.

#7 I agree, but sometimes there is not an ongoing tournament in the time control you are looking to play.
Can you show the ? in the rating in the lobby because I hate to play those people so Im trying to abort those games asap and thats a lot more annoying now that you have to wait 15 sec...

It can be annoying when you click on say a blitz seek against a 1600 player but then in the game you see that their rating is provisional and they have a classical rating of 1900

I'll abort those games every time
