do some players value bishops more than queen ?

@blackzombie #11

Did you ever look at the match games between Fischer and Taimanov ? There are at least (iirc) 2 games in that match where Fischer wins in brilliant style with bishop vs. knight. Very instructive games.

Then there are games by Fischer where he gets a strong knight on d5 in Sicilian defense games, but here against Unzicker he wins with the "bad bishop" :

Here another fantastic game by Fischer, vs. Tal, where Fischer uses the strong bishop :

As some other people already said, bishop in open positions have a long range. And a knight needs a lot of moves to go from one wing to another wing.
If the position is closed or semi-closed, and if the knight can go to a strong square, where it is firmly supported by a pawn or pieces (Think about the "octopus" knight on d3 in the Garry gambit Sicilian from the Karpov-Kasparov, where the amazing strong knight on d3 is supported by a bishop on f5), and if the bishop is not doing well, rather locked in by pawns, and no way to easily make the bishop alive again, then a knight would be preferred.

But this all depends on the position on the board and future prospects.

I've played a game, and my opponent suddenly traded his queen against my bishop indirectly (He sadly left the game before completing the trade; wierd):

Was it Moh001's cousin?
I think question was if bishop was stronger then queen - answer is - of course not. Your cousin probably just doesnt see the trickyness of the knight and doesnt understand how to realise material advantage when you have extra material(pieces, pawns or better piece). Even 2 bishops are not nearly as strong as a queen, even thou in some cases they can restrict king much better then queen can from afar, they dont have to be afraid that theyre gonna get attacked, but if a queen wants to restrict king in same manner she has to be close to the king and therefore it can be attacked. But even so those bishops lose effectivity very quickly. It can control those squares for mabe 5 moves and then usually defender makes adequate precautions - block the diognal or put his own bishop for exchange(of course if defender doesnt get mated in those 5 moves). But the queen can dance around the king all day - back and forward. She doesnt care if the diognal gets blocked, she finds another weakness to get into.
kabacis, lol he does know that the queen is better than all earth's knights, but you know chess knights - specially in blitz - can get you sometimes to crunch the chess board out of rage :D, so he was just angry, you should've seen him that moment lol

about the Bishops stuff, the question has exaggeration humor sense, due to what i see some players do, they just dont never ever trade them no matter what lol
MikaAlka, he actually has problem with knights not bishop lol, plus, if it happened he ever traded his queen against your knight he wouldnt left sadly, actually he would get delighted, and say to you bad blunder friend, bad blunder :D
Three minor figures are in middlegame sightly better then a Queen,
because they can attack a weak pawn three times and a Queen can only defend once.
