The future of lichess - make love, not war!

LichessOff topic
In the last months, I remarked that some topics in the "off-topic"-area cause emotional discussions: fake-information is spreaded, users are verbally attacked. What is it all about, to make things concrete?

Dear community,

you certainly observed such things, too. I noticed that, in particular, during debates about the war in Ukraine since in some posts, russia's invasion was justified with "denazification" and the recently conducted referendums were presented as justified. Some users also mentioned the numerous worldwide wars of the USA and the expansion of NATO in advance of the conflict, which is both not illegitimate. It is well-known that some themes such as politics polarise more than others, which is per se not bad. But when the tone gets sharp and nobody listens each other, then we missed the goal of a forum, didn't we?

Many annoyed users had already underlined that lichess is not a political platform. It aims at bringing people from all over the world thanks to a hobby they have in common and at respecting each other while interacting with each other. Age, appearance, skin colour, nationality, sex and political attitudes don't play a role in this because everyone is equal. Therefore, I suggest that the @lichess moderators delete threads on political topics ASAP.

I suggest the same for all kinds of religious themes because here, everyone is highly convinced from his/her own perspective... you can certainly confirm this. Although, I don't know any cases that escalated, I believe that there are platformes which are betterly adapted for such discussions. Moreover, it makes sense to directly close forums in which the above-mentioned topics come up during the debate.

Alternatively, dear @lichess moderators, I would also agree with a statement from your side against hatespeech before taking further measures. I am very grateful that you have already deleted insulting or wrong comments, e. g. in a recent thread on the Russia's war in Ukraine.

In my eyes, it is not all about censorship, but making a clear statement against hate and smear and promoting fact-based discussions. What do you think about this? Please don't hesistate to leave me a comment, knowing that insults and politicals statements are not welcome. Many thanks.
